An Unearthly Senior
7:00pm to 12:42pm @
David Letterman Communication and Media Building, Ball State University
Room 125
Presenter: Austin Lugar
Throughout the years one cult show has continued to grow on a large international level. For many, Doctor Who was just the weird show that played on PBS late at night with the people in funny accents and ridiculously long scarfs. After its reboot in 2005, it's one of the biggest shows in England and a favorite for many Americans as well. Austin Lugar will take a look at the full history of the show that has stretched for almost 50 years. The talk will serve as a celebration for the fans who have loved it for years but also as a humorous (and accessible) guide for those who have never heard of Time Lords or the TARDIS. After the speech, there will be a panel discussion with Professor Sonny Wingler and undergraduates Ian Shepherd and Leigh Montano as they look at how there are so many different ways to enjoy the show.Apr 19, 2012

Doctor Who was on for 1963-1989 with seven different actors playing The Doctor. After a failed FOX TV movie in 1996, it seemed that the show was dead forever. Yet one ambitious producer rebooted the franchise in 2005 with high critical success and a new generation of fans. No longer are there cheesy costumes or wobbly sets, but slick special effects, incredible stories and surprisingly emotional depth. In a fun look at the past 7 years of the show, Austin Lugar will talk about why this show is so special. (This will be an entirely different talk than the one on Wednesday and there won't be too many spoilers for new fans.)- Come Together Arts & Music Fest 12:00pm to 12:42pm @ The Water Bowl 6811 N. A 45-minute, first-person characterization of the true story of Mad Anne Bailey; an American heroine.
Following her first husband's death in the Battle of Point Pleasant in October 1774, Anne donned buckskin leggings under her petticoat, put on her husband's hunting shirt, and volunteered as a scout, hunter and messenger. She became a familiar sight in the Kanawha Valley carrying dispatches from Fort Lee, Fort Randolph and Fort Savannah. With her rifle at hand and hatchet in her belt, she came to be known as "Mad Anne" to some and "The White Squaw of the Kanawha Valley" to others.
