Annual HVNA Rummage Sale

Our BIG annual multi-neighborhood rummage sale is back this year on Saturday, July 18th starting at 8AM. Some sellers will be selling multiple days. Be sure to check our driving map to see the participating homes, with sale dates and sale items listed. We will continue to make updates as new information is received.

Likewise, be sure to like, follow and share our Facebook event, where we will provide further updates in the coming weeks.

This is a huge area comprised of ~1,000 homes in the Norwood, Nor-Hal and Halteman Village neighborhoods (the area between McGalliard, Wheeling, Riggin and Everett roads) in Muncie. We're also including the Halteman and Brewington Woods area between Moore and Riggin, and as always, the Halteman area (west Twickingham) just west of Everett.

Participants will learn the long-stitch binding method to create a soft leather journal with an exposed spine that allows for flexibility and durability. This class is for anyone looking to preserve their memories, whether for personal reflection, to share with loved ones, or to publish. It's ideal whether you've already begun a memoir or are just starting to explore writing about your life.

You'll create a series of vignettes, short scenes or snapshots from your life, written in whatever style speaks to you: prose, poetry, dialogue, or even playwriting. No matter the form, the focus is on translating your thoughts into words, and this class will help you build that essential skill.

Over three sessions, you'll respond to writing prompts designed to help you "capture your life" on the page. You'll also have the chance to share your writing, ask questions, and exchange feedback and discoveries with the group.

This class is best suited for beginning and intermediate writers. Each class is designed to be repeatable, offering new prompts and insights each time you take it.

Instructor: Lylanne Musselman is an award-winning poet, playwright, and visual artist whose work spans poetry, drama, and creative nonfiction. Drawing on personal experience, memory, and emotional resilience, she explores themes of caregiving, relationships, and Midwestern life. She is the author of several poetry collections and chapbooks, including "It's Not Love, Unfortunately, Paparazzi for the Birds, Staring Dementia in the Face, and Open Up to Poetry: A Memoir and Manual", with a new collection forthcoming in 2026.

Her work has appeared in respected literary journals and anthologies and has earned multiple Pushcart Prize nominations. She serves on the executive board of the Midwest Writers Workshop, teaches at Indiana institutions, and leads workshops and readings across the state.

This is our annual community event that we have hosted for 12 years now. It’s fun for the entire family! The Bulldogs will perform their famous 50’s & 60’s Rock n Roll show. Food trucks, bounce house, dunk tank & a magician! There will also be a huge raffle and 50/50 to assist in our fundraising efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket & have a blast! Feel free to also bring a classic car and enter our car show. There aren’t any dash plaques awarded as this is our way to give back to the community. If you would like to enter a classic car, please be parked by 4:30 in the afternoon and plan on staying for the entire entirety of the event that ends at 8:30. A meal ticket will be provided to the driver. We look forward to seeing you and having some fun!

Join Cody Sprunger, Archivist for Architectural and Design Records at Ball State University, for an exploration of the local built environment shaped by Herbert Smenner, one of Muncie’s leading 20th-century architects. Working both independently and alongside his professional partner Charles Houck, Smenner helped define the region’s architectural character through designs such as the Muncie Fieldhouse and the Grace Keiser Maring Library. Through original architectural drawings, documents, and photographs from Ball State University Libraries’ Andrew Seager Archives of the Built Environment, the program brings Smenner’s creative process to life while highlighting the lasting impact of his work across East Central Indiana. Looking for a creative, hands-on hobby with a modern twist? Try needlepointing! This isn’t your grandmother’s needlepoint. Today’s version is vibrant, customizable, and full of personality.

In each class, you'll design a one-of-a-kind piece by choosing your own thread colors and selecting from a variety of stitches using a helpful stitch guide. Every session features a new project, so there's always something fresh and inspiring to create.

Whether you're just starting out or have years of stitching under your belt, this class welcomes all skill levels—beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

Instructor: Linda Burkhardt has been teaching beginning needlepoint at the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center since 2017, sharing both her artistic talent and her generous spirit with the community. She is the owner of Elegant Needleworks, a business founded in 1994 with her sister to inspire creativity and expand appreciation for needlepoint in Muncie. Linda's work has helped transform the Center during the holidays, showcasing beautiful hand-stitched decorations created by local artisans.

Minnetrista Museum & Gardens

Join us for a special occasion card making class featuring different styles of stamps and a variety of supplies. In addition to learning helpful tips and tricks for making your cards stunning, you'll also receive all the supplies you need to make five one-of-a-kind cards for your family and friends during class.

Instructor: Krista Flynn works in Ball State University's Office of Community Engagement and has taught card-making classes at the Center for several years. She brings her creative vision to the classroom, sharing her knowledge and expertise so participants can learn from her while adding their own personal touch to each card. Krista has also led the Center's holiday decorating efforts, transforming the mansion each season into a festive and inviting space for the community to enjoy.

Gather around the table for an evening centered on local farms and the people who sustain them. In each class, you'll design a one-of-a-kind piece by choosing your own thread colors and selecting from a variety of stitches using a helpful stitch guide. Every session features a new project, so there's always something fresh and inspiring to create. Whether you're just starting out or have years of stitching under your belt, this class welcomes all skill levels---beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

Instructor: Linda Burkhardt has been teaching beginning needlepoint at the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center since 2017, sharing both her artistic talent and her generous spirit with the community. She is the owner of Elegant Needleworks, a business founded in 1994 with her sister to inspire creativity and expand appreciation for needlepoint in Muncie. Linda's work has helped transform the Center during the holidays, showcasing beautiful hand-stitched decorations created by local artisans.
