    Madjax Muncie
    515 E. Main St.
Muncie-based visual artist and MadJax maker, Kat Peace is April’s featured artist in the TOOLSONG Gallery. The exhibition highlights Peace’s layered, intuitive painting style, working across acrylic and oil to explore the connection between the natural world and the inner one. TOOLSONG is located on the first floor of MadJax, near the center of the building, across from the elevator. The gallery is free and open to the public during MadJax hours - Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Carved from a former transformer shaft in our historic industrial building, the gallery has been reimagined into a light-filled space dedicated to experimentation and contemporary making. Designed and constructed by students from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning, TOOLSONG reflects MadJax’s commitment to adaptive reuse, hands-on learning, and creating new platforms for artists to share work with the community.

    Muncie Artists Guild
    Various locations
The Muncie Artists Guild Artist of the Month for May is Dennie Mann.

While recovering from major surgery in 2022, Dennie decided to return to painting after a 40-year hiatus. Recovery and retirement have brought time, relaxation, and the opportunity to focus on learning new skills while exploring previously unfamiliar techniques and media. Dennie currently works primarily in oils on stretched canvas. His subjects are landscape and seascape scenes, inspired by breathtakingly beautiful scenes in nature. He is focusing on improving his plein air painting skills.

Dennie's work will be on display at the following locations: Haul n' Oats, Old National Bank, Rosebud Coffee House, and The Patterson Block

    Record Parlor of Muncie
    125 E. Charles St., Suite 110
The Record Parlor of Muncie is continuing an initiative to create a Community Collage Album! In addition to enjoying our gallery of local art, visitors will have the opportunity to record some music (regardless of talent). We will have a small studio space set up with microphones, guitars, and a couple small percussion instruments. Visitors can also feel free to bring their own instrument to play. Anyone who wants to is welcome to record something (even if it's just hand claps). All of the sounds will then be mixed and mastered into a song. At the end of the year, we will have a full album of songs created by the community to share. The recording station will be set up from 6-8 so come contribute to the Community Collage!

    RoHo’s Muncie
    308 S. Walnut St.
Join us for a special evening celebrating local talent as we showcase Kerry Shaw as RoHo’s Artist of the Month! Kerry is a Muncie-based artist with deep roots in the local creative community. With a background in fine art and graphic design from Ringling College of Art and Design and Ball State University, he’s spent decades honing his craft—both professionally and personally. After a successful career with Ball Corporation, Anderson University, and his own firm shawDesign, Kerry now focuses on painting stunning landscapes and portraits. His work is inspired by his travels and time spent painting with groups like the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, Hoosier Salon, and Tucson Barrio Painters. Stop in, grab a drink, and experience Kerry’s work up close.

The Songwriter Sessions at Elm Street
    519 N. Elm
The Songwriter Sessions is a monthly event where local and regional songwriters share the art of original music and the stories behind the songs.  The event is held in conjunction with Muncie's First Thursday. It runs from 8-10pm at Elm Street Brewing Co, 519 North Elm Street after the main First Thursday events, as an after party where you can unwind and listen to awesome live music performed by the creators. The May event features Pocket Diver (Elia Buss) and Cherry Chub, both from the Muncie area.

    Urban Stitch
    306 S. Walnut
Urban Stitch: Designing Connections follows a group of Ball State architecture students as they work to strengthen the connection between campus and downtown. Through collaboration with local businesses, artists, and community leaders—and by activating spaces through events—the studio explores new ways to bring students into the life of downtown Muncie. The result is a set of ideas grounded in real experience, now hopefully moving forward with support from the city and community partners.
