Tickets are free for school groups with advance reservation, $5 general admission at the door.
The Young People’s Concert, held during the school day, engages young minds through an exciting full-orchestra performance. This morning performance by the Muncie Symphony correlates with Indiana Standards of Learning. Participating schools receive student listening guides, a teacher guide and a study CD in advance of the performance.
Both elementary and secondary students are invited to Young People’s Concerts; age-appropriate performance guides help students and teachers get the most out of the concert experience. The concert at 9:30am on January 30, 2013 will be geared toward 4th, 5th and 6th graders , though students of any age are welcome at the concert as well as their families. Concerts serve city, county public, private and home-schooled students.

East meets West. The MSO opens the season with music by living composers as well as the popular La Mer by Claude Debussy. Our guest artist from China, Su Chang, will perform a concerto on the traditional Chinese instrument, the guzheng. Also featured will be Tan Dun’s Internet Symphony, a unique composition commissioned by Google/YouTube, which was first performed by a virtual orchestra on the Internet.

The program is a collaborative project of the Muncie Children’s Museum, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and Masterworks Chorale.Take on the challenge of learning a song and be a part of the performance coming together. Tour our four music stations at MCM!From 12pm to 2pm, take your turn trying out different instruments in MSO’s instrument petting zoo; if you can play an instrument you are invited to show off your talent at the song of choice station; visit the MSO ensemble to learn the language of music notes; check out the pitch pit to match your voice with Masterworks Chorale; and step on stage to see how costumes tell a story. At the end of the musical tour at 2pm, the MSO ensemble and Masterworks Chorale group will put on a patriotic performance with help from the audience.

Ages: Competitors are in grades 6-11 The Muncie Symphony Orchestra holds an annual competition for young musicians in the region. Two divisions: the Junior (grades 6-8) and the Senior (grades 9-11) provide the opportunity for two winners to receive a cash prize and an opportunity to perform with the Muncie Symphony in a future concert.
Application deadline for young artists is December 1, 2014.
