BIG Questions BIG Ideas
Thursday, February 19, 6:30-7:30pm
Dr. Abel Alves
Professor of History
Ball State University
"Studying the Human Animal: A Bigger History"
Too often humans have "cherry-picked" historical evidence to justify their quests for dominance-rationalizing patriarchy, imperialism, ultranationalism and religious extremism. We can better understand these historical behaviors, and our propensity to be altruistic too, through a recognition that we are animals subjected to the same evolutionary process as other creatures of the earth. As already stated by Charles Darwin in The Origin of Species, "There is grandeur in this view of life."
Free and open to the public. Kennedy Library | 1700 W. McGalliard Rd. | 765-747-8209 www.munciepubliclibrary.org
