Free family movies return to DWNTWN! Join us at Canan Commons for four fabulous movies and family pre-show jubilees! Themed family activities will be provided before the movies each month. Canan Commons is located in the 500 block of south Walnut Street near the roundabout. Family pre-show activities begin at 7:00pm, with the movie starting at dusk.

Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and bug spray. Vendors will be on-site with light snacks.

Bluegrass greats The Grascals will be performing in a FREE outdoor concert on Saturday, July 9th at Canan Commons as part of the Muncie Three Trails Music Series. WIPB's Be My Neighbor Day is Sept. 10 at Canan Commons

Join us for WIPB's second annual BE MY NEIGHBOR DAY!

Meet PBS Kids star DANIEL TIGER and participate in lots of fun "neighborly" activities with our community's great neighbors - service organizations, arts organizations, neighborhood groups and more!

And Ruditoonz will return to perform on the main stage!

The free, fun-filled event will be 1-4 p.m. Sept. 10 at Canan Commons, downtown Muncie.

Light Up DWNTWN powered by AEP will be held on December 1, from 5-8pm throughout Downtown Muncie. Galleries, restaurants and retailers invite you to spend the evening with them as we kick off the holiday shopping season. The Community Tree Lighting ceremony will take place at Canan Commons (located in the 500 block of S. Walnut St.). Join us as Santa “Light’s UP DWNTWN!"  

The Muncie Makers Market at Make Music Not Meth

The next two weeks are busy for the Muncie Makers Market! :) I know we all look for ways to support our community, this is the time! 

As the whole planet seems to know, Muncie has a meth problem. So do most towns, and it doesn't stop at meth. To combat both this drug abuse problem that tears families and communities apart, and the awful brand stuck on our town, we are fighting back. No one is coming to save us, we will save ourselves. 

Last year brought the beginning of our Community Healing Concert Series, Make Music Not Meth (MMNM). These events look to raise awareness, and to give concrete alternatives to destructive choices. Hoosier Mike Martin is the organizer behind this series, an actively touring musician and concert/club producer, and he has invited the Muncie Makers Market to show kids, before they make those destructive choices, a bunch of wonderful, proactive, creative people making their own community great. We are role models, and I'm proud of that. 

On Saturday, June 3rd and Saturday, June 10th, the Muncie Makers Market will go as usual, at our lot on the corner of Jackson and Cherry Streets from 4-7p. On Sunday, June 4th and Sunday, June 11th, the Market will be also featured at MMNM, at the Downtown park, Canan Commons (on South Walnut by the roundabout, next to the Marriott), also from 4-7p. The music will continue on through the night and there will be all kinds of activities for kids and families including music jams, bounce houses, a musical instrument drive, and much more!

Fresh food, locally grown produce, plants, art, handmade crafts, and live entertainment, all weekly outdoors, May-October, at the Muncie Makers Market on Saturdays from 4-7p on the corner of Jackson and Cherry Streets in the Old West End of Downtown Muncie, AND, we are a PokéStop just FULL of lures!

Bettye Lavette

Bettye Lavette, 3-time Grammy nominee and 2016 winner of Best Soul Blues female artist, will be performing a FREE show at Canan Commons on Saturday, July 8 as part of the 2017 Muncie Three Trails Music Series.                      

Muncie's own Jennie Devoe will be the special guest opener.

Ms. Lavette, in addition to her Grammy nominations, is also a W.C. Handy award winner, winner of the prestigious Pioneer Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, and winner of numerous awards from the Blues Music Association.

Jerry Douglas presents The Earls of Leicester

Bluegrass "supergroup" The Earls of Leicester featuring Jerry Douglas will be performing a FREE show on Friday, August 4 at Canan Commons as part of the 2017 Muncie Three Trails Music Series. The Earls' eponymous debut won the Grammy for Bluegrass Album of the Year, and they have also won many accolades from the International Bluegrass Music Association, including Entertainers of the Year in both 2015 and 2016, instrumental Group of the Year, Album of the Year, Dobro Player of the Year (Jerry Douglas), Male Vocalist of the Year (Shawn Camp), Banjo Player of the Year (Charlie Cushman) and Bass Player of the Year (Barry Bales). Flor De Toloache

Latin Grammy nominees Flor De Toloache will be performing a FREE show as part of the 2017 Muncie Three Trails Music Series at Canan Commons on Saturday, August 26. Flor De Toloache, an all-female Mariachi band, are pioneers in updating Mariachi music for contemporary audiences. They have performed on renowned stages throughout the U.S. and Europe, and have had their performances praised by Rolling Stone, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, GQ, and the New Yorker. Pokey Lafarge

Poley Lafarge, who drew the biggest crowd in the Muncie Three Trails Music Series' history last year, will return to our stage at Canan Commons in 2017 on Saturday, September 23 for another FREE show. Mr. Lafarge records for the leading American roots music label Rounder Records, and he is a two-time winner of Americana Album of the Year. His music is an ecletic mix of early jazz, hot swing, ragtime, country blues, folk, and Americana.
