Music at the House of the Medici

The Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra will perform “Music at the House of the Medici” in Sursa Hall at 7:30 pm. The performance is in conjunction with the spring special exhibition Beyond the Medici celebrating Italian Baroque art at the David Owsley Museum of Art. IBO's mission is to perform and promote music of the 17th and 18th centuries using period instruments and historically informed performance practices. “Music at the House of the Medici” will celebrate the sounds of Florence, Italy, in the 17th and early 18th centuries.

DOMA (2021 W. Riverside Ave) will remain open from 5-7 p.m. on March 28 so visitors can enjoy a free public reception and view the exhibition prior to the 7:30 p.m. performance at Sursa Hall (1809 W. Riverside Avenue). Ticket holders are also invited to a pre-concert chat by Dr. Murray Steib, professor of music history at Ball State, at 6:45 p.m. in Sursa Hall. Beyond the Medici and “Music at the House of the Medici” are made possible by Ball State’s Arts Alive Series, presented by the University’s College of Fine Arts.

Art in Bloom 2024

Visit the David Owsley Museum of Art on May 18 and 19 for Art in Bloom, an annual springtime celebration featuring floral creations by regional designers inspired by works of art in the galleries!

From 1pm to 5pm on both days, visitors can enjoy the arrangements, docent-led tours, music, and activities for all ages. An evening reception from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday, May 18, will offer jazz, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash (only) bar.

There is no admission fee for this event, and weekend parking on the Quad Circle is also free.

Discover your inner Mother Nature and learn how to create a lovely and realistic crepe paper poppy to take home! Learn techniques from local artist Jeanne Zeigler with all supplies provided. The two workshops - part of Art in Bloom weekend - are free of charge but space is limited and registration is required.

Santa is coming to MCM!!

Join us on Sunday, December 8th from 1-4:30pm, for Sundaes with Santa, hosted by the Muncie Children's Museum Guild! Children are invited to learn about different holiday events celebrated around the world as they complete their very own Holiday Passport. ‘Travel the world’ with fun and educational activities, crafts and games along the way. Once completed, children can show their Holiday Passport to staff at the front desk to receive a prize.

Celebrate the New Year at the Muncie Children's Museum with a family-friendly NYE Bash! Join us on Tuesday, December 31, from 1pm-4:30pm for fun activities, crafts, snacks and a balloon drop! All activities are included with museum admission ($8) and free for MCM Members.

Breaking the boundaries of what is deemed traditional Indigenous art, Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass examines how Native artists reinterpret cultural narratives and designs. The two-pronged exhibition focuses on how Native artists have melded ancestral ways with new methods and materials, while also examining the historical narrative of how glass art came to Indian Country from a historical perspective. Visitors will be wowed by over 100 glass art objects created by contemporary Native American and Indigenous Pacific-Rim artists.

Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass was originated by The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The traveling exhibit was curated by Dr. Letitia Chambers and is toured by International Arts & Artists.
