The 2001 French comedy The Closet (Le placard), starring Daniel Auteuil and Gerard Depardieu, will be shown in the University Film Series Tuesday, January 26, 7:30 PM, in AJ 175. In this clever farce, Auteuil plays a hapless sad-sack who poses as gay to save his job.

Mitchell L. H. Douglas's debut poetry collection, Cooling Board: A Long-Playing Poem (Red Hen Press, 2009), explores the personal and professional struggles of soul legend Donny Hathaway.

Mary Miller's short story collection, Big World, was published in February 2009 by Short Flight/Long Drive Books.

Kao Kalia Yang's first memoir, The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir, was published by Coffee House Press in 2009.

Matt Bell Matt Bell is the author of a forthcoming fiction collection, How They Were Found (Keyhole, Fall 2010). He is also the editor of The Collagist and the series editor of Dzanc's Best of the Web anthology series.

Watch My Name is Jerry, Tuesday, April 6^th at 7:30pm in AJ 175

My Name is Jerry, a College of Fine Arts produced commercial film, will have its BSU premiere on Tuesday, April 6^th at 7:30pm in AJ 175 as part of the University Film Series. The film stars BSU Alumni Doug Jones, known for his work in the Hellboy films, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Pan's Labyrinth, and tells the story of a middle-age salesman's attempt to re-invent himself through his friendship with a group of punk rockers.

On hand for a Q&A will be the film's Director, Producer, and many of the student editors, grips, Production Assistants and PR designers.

My Name is Jerry has been named Best Film, Score, and Supporting Actress at the International Filmmakers Festival (Kent, England), Best Feature Film at the Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival, and Best Feature Comedy at the Route 66 Film Festival. It was also honored as a full-length film Official Selection of the Heartland Film Festival.

Start September's First Thursday with Arts at the Atrium Gallery reception for Gunther Cartwright's Industrial Blues.

Light refreshments will be served at 4:00pm and the Atrium Gallery will be open until 6:00 pm.
The artist will be attending the reception and his artwork will be on display in the Atrium Gallery until September 18.
The Atrium Gallery is located on the first floor of the Art and Journalism building at Ball State University.

Gunther Cartwright's photography has been described as "powerful images of the structural elements of bridges, buildings, highways, fences and storage containers examine the formal relationships of line, form and color in the industrial landscape." This exhibition features Cartwright's artwork that "like the American Precisionists of the 1920's clarifies the geometrical structures of the machine age and provides us with a crisp new perspective of our contemporary industrial culture."

Come one, come all, to my 12-hour ART ATTACK!

The goal:
One massive, collaborative piece of art, created within 12 hours and only 12 hours!

The method:
I will have a table in the Atrium between the hours of 7 and 7 on Friday, December 3rd, with a massive roll of butcher block, pencils, etc.

You will stop by at some point during the day, shrug off the aches and pains of a stressful year, and pour your heart into 5 minutes or 5 hours of drawing! You can just stop in for a second, or you can get a whole bunch of your friends together and stop on by with every crayon, marker, pen and pencil that you can get your hands on!

Making It in Indiana is an exhibition of Indiana artists who make their living exclusively by making art.
