Join the University Singers in a Cabaret concert in Sursa Hall on January 27.  This concert, under the direction of Alan Alder, celebrates the day Indiana Governor Evan Bayh recognized the ensemble as “Indiana’s Official Goodwill Ambassadors” in 1994. In April, experience the University Singers on their home stage at Emens Auditorium as they present the 49^th annual Spectacular.

The School of Music’s all-student orchestra performs music from all genres and time periods, providing students with an intense and relevant orchestral experience.  On January 31, the winners of the Graduate Solo/Concerto Competition will be featured with the orchestra.  The Undergraduate Solo/Concerto Competition winners will perform with the orchestra on February 28.  In April, the orchestra can be heard playing with the Ball State Opera Theatre in a production of L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti.

Ball State’s Jazz Ensembles kick off the New Year with a rousing evening of jazz favorites for this Tom Shah Annual Memorial Jazz Scholarship Award Concert on February 6.  Next up, the Ensembles perform with the winners of the Dimensions in Jazz High School Bands competition on March 2 in Emens Auditorium.  The Ensembles go out with a bang on April 10 with a special guest artist.

Thomas Caneva, Ball State’s director of bands, and Shawn Vondran, assistant director of bands, lead the Ball State Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band in performances February 16, March 15 and April 26.  The Ball State Concert Band, conducted by doctoral and graduate students, performs on February 27 and April 22.

Ball State Opera Theatre is proud to present L’elisir d’amore (the elixir of love), by Gaetano Donizetti, this April 5 & 7, 2013 in Emens Auditorium. 

Set in the old west, Nemorino, the town's smithy and wainwright, is hopelessly in love with the rich bank owner, Adina, who doesn't even know he exists. When a traveling snake oil salesman comes to town and sells Nemorino a magic love potion, the results are hilarious and touching. L'elisir d'amore is filled with the melodies of the bel canto era and climaxes with one of the most well-known and beloved of all tenor arias: Una furtiva lagrima; an aria made famous by the greatest tenors of the century: Caruso, Gigli and Pavarotti.

Five vocal ensembles display their talents and perform a wide range of music in April.   Each ensemble, although different in scope, strives for the highest possible performance level to ensure that each singer will have an artistically rewarding experience.  The Statesmen, Choral Union and Women’s Chorus perform on April 14, and the Chamber Choir and Concert Choir perform on April 21.
