Five vocal ensembles display their talents and perform a wide range of music in April.   Each ensemble, although different in scope, strives for the highest possible performance level to ensure that each singer will have an artistically rewarding experience.  The Statesmen, Choral Union and Women’s Chorus perform on April 14, and the Chamber Choir and Concert Choir perform on April 21.

The Ball State School of Music’s annual Chamber Music Festival is believed to be the longest-running continuous university-affiliated series of its kind in the country. Campus and community singers come together to form the Ball State School of Music Summer Chorus, under the direction of Duane Karna, where they perform music from around the world. The concerts include vocal presentations of the finest in light classical, pop, jazz, spiritual/gospel, and patriotic music.

Ball State’s Summer Band and Summer Jazz Ensemble join forces to present traditional and contemporary works representing all musical periods and styles, and including classic hits of the big bands. Summer Band is conducted by Shawn Vondran, the Jazz Ensemble by Mark Buselli.

New York City saxophonist Danny Walsh joins the Ball State Jazz Ensembles for the first Art of Jazz Series concert of the season. Walsh has performed with the Mingus Dynasty Big Band, Mike Stern, Lenny White, Chick Corea, the Brecker Brothers, Stanley Clarke, and many more.
