Local physician John “Doc” Peterson celebrates the release of his long-awaited book, "The True-Life Adventures of Captain Wa Wah: Fifty Years of Music, Meditation and Politics" with a Release Party from 7:30-10pm on November 6th, 2009 at Doc’s Music Hall located at 215 S. Please help celebrate this noted occasion with a respected member of the Muncie community. From “The True-Life Adventures of Captain Wa Wah”: “Around here, in Indiana, I’m known as Dr. John or just “Doc.” In my college days in Iowa, I was known as Captain Wa Wah. Through these stories, I’ve re-framed some of my memories; the music of the 60s, playing keyboard in an almost-made-it band, recording at the Old Chess Studios and Universal Studios in Chicago, opening for Sonny and Cher, the Beach Boys, and the Doors...Vietnam, the Chicago 7 trial, the Civil Rights Movement, Watergate, Patty Hearst and the SLA, the Maharishi, the Nuclear Freeze Movement, Women’s Liberation, Orville K. Snav, and, finally, Doc’s Music Hall with listings of all the musicians who have performed there since 1992...plus a slew of cool friends and acquaintances along the way. I hope you enjoy the ride.” Please contact Kim Gillenwater at 765-760-1119 or at kim@captainwawah.com for further information on this event.

Help create the Muncie Action Plan! What is the Muncie Action Plan and what will be included? The Muncie Action Plan will be a strategic guide that expresses the values and aspirations of our community, while creating a compelling action agenda for the future. That is why the Muncie Action Plan needs you. Why an Action Plan? We need a tool to shape an inspired agenda for the future of Muncie. That is why the Muncie Action Plan needs you. Who is preparing the Action Plan? Anyone in the community that cares about their future in Muncie is participating in creating the action plan. Anyone in Muncie that is concerned about the future of the place they live, work, play, or study is needed to participate. That is why the Muncie Action Plan needs you. What topics will be addressed? Anything that is of interest to the community will be considered. That is why the Muncie Action Plan needs you. Why should I care? If you want aspects of the community improved, then you should also care enough to help identify what needs to eb addressed. Anyone who cares about Muncie will care enough to tell us what you think. That is why the Muncie Action Plan needs you. What happens when the plan is complete? The Action Plan will include recommendations for action that are achievable by Muncie with the support of the community. That is why the Muncie Action Plan needs you.
  • Undergraduate Writers Gala 7:30pm to 9pm @ Bracken Library, Ball State University Room 104
Writing will come to life from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. tonight in Bracken Library Room 104 at the third annual Undergraduate Writers Gala. Twenty students will present original works in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. After the student presentations, everyone who attends can participate in a round robin haiku contest. Prizes will be provided. “The purpose is to showcase undergraduate talent inside and out of the department and allow them to compete and get their work out there,” said Tyler Gobble, president of the Writers Community of Ball State. The Student Government Association and the Writers Community are co-sponsoring the event. This is the first year for their partnership. Last year 65 students attended, but Gobble said he’s hoping to see 75 people there this year. Free food will also be provided.
