Discover the art of traditional bookbinding in this hands-on workshop! Students will learn how to create a classic Coptic-bound book by sewing together folded booklets (called signatures) to form a beautiful exposed spine that allows pages to lay perfectly flat. Participants will choose from an array of decorative and handcrafted papers to personalize their project, making each book truly one of a kind. This historic binding technique is ideal for sketchbooks, journals, or creative projects that benefit from smooth page movement. All tools and supplies will be provided.

Free Community Event 

The Human Library Project features human "books" that visitors can borrow for conversation. The Library provides a framework to inspire positive conversations that reduce stereotypes and prejudice through dialogue. Join us for the opportunity to talk to people who are different from you in a setting where difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered.

The Oakhurst Experience will be closed on April 26, but the Oakhurst Home will be open for the Human Library Project event from 1-4 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free community event.

Minnetrista Museum & Gardens

May 22; 9:30 a.m.–3 p.m. | All Campus Cost: $6 per child; includes free admission for two adults with each child ticket. Additional adult tickets are $7 each. Free for members. Homeschool families are invited to a fun-filled day of educational activities across Minnetrista’s campus. Activities are designed for students in prekindergarten through 6th grade, while all ages can enjoy exploring our exhibitions, historic homes, and scenic nature trails. Come ready to learn and play! Preregistration is encouraged.

Join Chris Flook, local historian, author, and senior lecturer in the Department of Media at Ball State University, for a journey along the White River through Muncie’s past. Beginning with the Lenape settlement of the 1790s, the program traces the river’s role in the agricultural village of the 1830s and the industrial city that followed. Along the way are stories of prosperous mills, devastating floods and towering levees, pollution and recovery, grand bridges, and long-standing myths set straight. Guests are invited to see familiar places in a new way while enjoying delicious appetizers. Preregistration is preferred; limited walk-in tickets may be available—please call ahead. This program has been made possible through a grant from Indiana Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
