📷 This upcoming Wednesday, we will continue our study session of “Black Scare/Red Scare: Theorizing Capitalist Racism in the United States” by Dr. Charisse Burden-Stelly for Black Study Group. This book discusses the long history of anti-Black and anti-communist/radical repression that has been integral in domestic and foreign US policies and governance, and how racism and racial hierarchy are at the heart of capitalist exploitation and US society.
We will be reading an abridged version of chapter 4 titled, “The Negro Question as a National Question, the Structural Location of Blackness, and the Problem of Black Self-Determination”, discussing how Black self-determination, particularity in the form of the right to self-defense, analyzing the Negro Question as a National Question, and asserting Black self-determination in the Black Belt of the U.S., was deemed subversive, foreign inspired, and un-American, and how it was subjected to the Black Scare/Red Scare.
