The Fall 2020 Muncie YART on Facebook
5:00pm @
Virtual Event
YART is a Yard Sale for Art held on the First Thursday of every May and October! All Art under $40! All Artists handle their sales with you directly!
The pandemic has challenged everyone on Earth, and most recently, my related challenge has been as long-time Director of YART, Muncie’s Yard Sale for Art, coming up - and going fully online - on Thursday, October 1st. The Fall 2020 Muncie YART will happen! All the talented YART Artists will have their work for sale in a special Facebook group I’ve created. We are keeping that yard sale vibe going by all Art being priced under $40 and all Artists handling their own sales. The last Fall YART showcased over 150 Artists! YART is my giant twice-a-year volunteer gift to Muncie. I never charge any Artist to participate; and I have no staff and no budget. I heartily invite the entire community to come buy some Art at YART on October’s First Thursday at the following Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/4827417053950079
ARTISTS: Sign up to sell at YART for FREE! Join us at Muncie YART on Facebook!

Gordy Fine Art & Framing opening party for Hugh Syme: Hugh Syme is an artist with a long career designing album covers for bands such as Rush, Def Leppard, Dream Theatre, Megadeath and many others. He will open a new exhibit in Muncie, Indiana at Gordy Fine Art and Framing on Thursday December 1, 5 – 8 pm. The show of signed prints will include some of his most iconic album art together with rare originals. Throughout the evening, he will be on hand to engage with viewers and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. Live music by Dan Wright will be provided throughout the evening. At 6:15 there will be an informal Question and Answer period with Hugh.
The exhibit will be on view with framed works for sale in the gallery and at gordyframing.com through January 28, 2023.
Originally from Toronto, Syme has lived in New Castle, Indiana off and on since 1987. When working in Indiana, he collaborated with a Muncie-based photographer for set pieces, worked with local people as models, and used nearby architecture to construct the final images for his work.
Syme began his career in the music business playing keyboards and creating the album art for the Ian Thomas Band. The manager for the Thomas band also managed Rush. In 1975 he and Rush drummer Neil Peart asked Syme to do the album art for the Caress of Steel album. This launched Syme’s career, now spanning nearly 50 years. In Peart’s introduction to Syme’s recent book Art of Rush, he said that Syme creates with “both talent and love.” He praised “Hugh’s eye for proportion and ‘negative space’ – seldom understood as luxury, as space always does to humans.”
Syme’s clients include Time Warner, Disney, Forbes, NFL, Virgin, David Geffen, Mercury, SONY and many record labels too numerous to list. Syme has been nominated for the Juno Award (Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) a total of 18 times. He won for Best Album Graphics or Design in 1982 for Rush’s Moving Pictures, 1986 for Rush’s Power Windows, 1989 for Ian Thomas’s Levity, 1990 for Rush’s Presto, and 1992 for Rush’s Role the Bones.
Since 2020, he has co-hosted the popular “Music Buzz” podcast with fellow Hoosiers Dane Clark, drummer for John Mellencamp, and Andy Wilson, president of Elevate Entertainment. musicbuzzzpodcast.com

Muncie Artist’s Guild

The Muncie Artist Guild’s “Artist of the Month” for December 2022 is Rosaline FranklinRosaline’s artist statement:
"In my eyes there is nothing quite like looking out toward the horizon and taking in the beauty that can be found in nature! In elementary school, I quickly fell in love with art class and always looked forward to painting. I took this love home with me and begged my dad to buy me some paints! I would try my best with my store brand water colors and put on little art shows for my family. When I was a little older I began to appreciate nature more and more before discovering “The Joy of Painting'' hosted on PBS by none other than Bob Ross. The way he was able to create whole landscape paintings from nothing in the span of thirty minutes was inspiring! I decided I wanted to try my hand at wet on wet but found oils too expensive and settled on some acrylic paints. I can’t quite mimic the look of Bob Ross style paintings but I really enjoy trying my best to make acrylics look like oils!
This particular series of paintings combined warm and cool colors! Winter is my favorite season and I wanted to create snowy landscapes without using too much white. I settled with multiple hues of grays and blues for my cool colors and exciting oranges and yellows for my warmer colors. I love acrylic paints because little mistakes can be corrected quickly and I can come back sooner than with oils to add more to my canvas!"

Kim Anderson is a Junior High Art Teacher at Jay County Schools. She has a studio and kilns in Hartford City, Indiana, where she lives. I find that science considers facts, and the psyche discloses the mysteries of life. I am not searching for truth, but for a secret.”
Scott Anderson is a Professor of Painting at Ball State University since 1995 and has exhibited professionally for the past 30 years. “My paintings attempt to show idea systems in conflict through a mixture of styles, surfaces, symbols, appropriated images, and forms that have been assembled into a contrasting visual stew.”

Our Artist of the Month for the Muncie Artists Guild for February 2023 is Jennifer "Jennie" Irving.
Jennifer Irving is a Delaware County resident. She started working in watercolor and acrylic painting in the past few years after retiring from her career in Massage Therapy. She has always enjoyed working with her hands and creating. For her 50th birthday, she decided to gift herself a watercolor course and supplies with local artist Cindy Norrick-Turner. Jennie found she really enjoyed the merging of the colors and results which could arise. She loves working in a non-traditional style and likes alcohol inks and yupo paper for their magical movement and vibrancy. She continued to take various classes and explored mediums and techniques.Previous avenues of expression have included weaving, stained glass and jewelry making. She has a love of color and textures. An avid gardener, Jennie notices the shadows and structure in nature and finds joy and solace in natural flowing designs."

The Muncie YART is now held Downtown, at Canan Commons, twice a year, Spring and Fall, and coincides with ArtsWalk. The Fall 2023 Muncie YART is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, October 5th!This community art sale, with a goal of making art affordable and accessible to everyone, brings together Artists and Art patrons in a casual and unique setting. The Fall 2023 Muncie YART will be held in conjunction with the 2023 ArtsWalk on Thursday, October 5th, from 5-8p. You can find YART and LIVE music performances at Canan Commons, Muncie's great urban greenspace park and amphitheater by the roundabout on South Walnut Street in Downtown Muncie, Indiana.
All forms of Art are welcome at YART! Art of all kinds, by all kinds of Artists! YART encourages interaction between Artists and the community, hoping to make Art more accessible, especially to those who think they cannot afford to buy Art for themselves and their homes. To this goal, all YART Art will be priced below $40! YART works to enable local creative entrepreneurs and to improve the Muncie economy. Shop local, support independents, enjoy your town!
The last YART featured over 150 Artists! Each YART Artist will be present throughout YART to meet the public, discuss their Art, handle sales personally, and some Artists will be making Art LIVE at YART! This is a great opportunity to enjoy your family interacting with local culture in a dynamic, lively, and relaxed atmosphere.
The Fall 2023 Muncie YART will feature a wide variety of handmade jewelry, photography, clothing, oil/acrylic/watercolor paintings, ceramics, stuffed animals, drawings, knits, pottery, candles, toys, sculpture, glass, digital art, mosaics, LIVE ART and LIVE MUSIC, and so much more!
Outdoor fun for all ages - YART and ArtsWalk are for the whole family!
Miss Moth (YART Director) and the YART Artists very much thank Cheryl Crowder of the Muncie Downtown Development Partnership and the City of Muncie for their generous support! YART is an all-volunteer, zero-budget, community event. THANK YOU!
WANT TO SELL YOUR ART AT YART? It's FREE to Artists! :) YART Artist Sign Up is on September 1st on the Muncie YART page on Facebook.
