First Thursday Art Show & Tattoos for a Cause
We're coming together to support our friends Jolie Ruin and Jamie (@jmetattooing) during a difficult time. Jolie has recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer and will be undergoing 7-8 weeks of treatment. As she focuses on recovery, Jamie will be taking time away from work to help care for her.

First Thursday: Jolie Ruin Art Show
We're proud to feature Jolie's artwork at the shop throughout the month, with a special opening during First Thursday. This is a great opportunity to support her directly by purchasing her artwork and celebrating her creativity during a challenging time. If you've admired her work before, now is the perfect time to take a piece home and help support her journey.

    Saturday, November 7: Tattoos for a Cause (1:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
We'll also be hosting a tattoo fundraiser with multiple flash sheets to choose from. 100% of proceeds from the event will go directly to Jolie and Jamie to help offset expenses while Jolie undergoes treatment and Jamie takes time away from work to care for her.

If you'd like to support, you can:

    • Visit the First Thursday Jolie Ruin Art Show
    • Purchase artwork through the links in @jolieruin's bio
    • Get tattooed on Saturday, November 7
    • Share this post and help spread the word

We appreciate every bit of support. Thank you for showing up for two wonderful people who mean so much to our community.

Gordy Fine Art & Framing Co.
    224 E. Main
First Thursday opening reception for Gordy Fine Art Presents Moku-Moths by Ball State Distinguished Professor Patricia Nelson, 5-8pm.

Gordy Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of Moku-Moths, a new exhibition by artist and Ball State University Distinguished Professor of Art Patricia Nelson, opening on Thursday, November 5, 2026.  Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.

In her new body of work, Nelson combines a lifelong fascination with insect anatomy with her mastery of metalwork and enameling. For this show she employs mokume gane, a traditional 17th-century Japanese technique in which non-ferrous metals like copper and silver are fused into solid blocks called billets, and then hammered and carved into sheet, revealing organic, woodgrain-like patterns. Then she invented a method to apply multi-fired vitreous enamel onto these patterned surfaces.

At 6:15 The Artist will give an informal talk about her work where she will describe the method she pioneered to apply vitreous enamel onto the patterned Mokume surfaces.

"I have always been intrigued with the anatomy of invertebrates, especially those possessing exoskeletons," says Nelson.  “Those animals easily inspire intricate metal fabrications.  In addition, the surface of patterned mokume has an unpredictable, organic feel that simulates wood bark, and by extension insect camouflage, in a way that is almost uncanny.  I hope I have achieved the feel of a creature that endures through a combination of camouflage for survival plus a brilliant show of color and pattern when attracting a mate.”

The exhibit will be on view with works for sale in the gallery through December, 2026.

    ArtsWalk Returns to DWNTWN
October 1 with New AR Features and DWNTWN IDOL Finale

On Thursday, October 1, downtown Muncie will turn its sidewalks over to the artists, makers, and performers who shape its creative identity. ArtsWalk is a special edition of First Thursday that will run from 5–8 p.m. and give the community a chance to meet the people behind the work. Attendees can browse handmade goods, watch live performances, and explore augmented reality glimpses of the buildings that once stood along the same streets.

This year's ArtsWalk features an expanded Echoes of Muncie augmented reality experience, created by Ball State University's IDIA Lab students and faculty. Using their phones, guests can step back in time and see former downtown buildings in their original glory. New this year, the Rivoli Theatre and Ball Stores buildings join the Wysor Building, Wysor Grand Opera House, and Delaware County Courthouse in the immersive experience, made possible with support from the Ball Brothers Foundation.

Art lovers won’t want to miss YART at Canan Commons, a “yard sale for art” featuring one-of-a-kind, handmade finds from local makers and artisans, all priced under $40. Local and visiting artisans will also showcase their work in various media at Cornerstone, Gordy, and other galleries throughout downtown.

The evening builds to the DWNTWN IDOL Finale at 6 p.m. on the Canan Commons stage, where 20 finalists from two rounds of competition will sing for the crown, a $500 cash prize, and more. The crowd gets a say too — attendees can cast a live People's Choice vote for their favorite performer while a judging panel determines the overall winner. The finale is sponsored by the City of Muncie, with support for the stage provided by Ball State University.

Fan-favorite Soup Crawl returns as well, organized by PrimeTrust FCU and benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank. Guests can purchase a ticket to sample a variety of incredible soups from local restaurants as they make their way through downtown. Food trucks will round out the food and drink offerings alongside downtown's local eateries. Because ArtsWalk takes place within the Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), guests can enjoy their favorite beverages from participating restaurants and vendors as they explore the event.

"ArtsWalk is one of our favorite nights of the year because it puts the creativity of this community on full display," said Amanda Holmquist, Executive Director of Muncie Downtown Development Partnership. “This event gives people a reason to come check out how much talent is here in Muncie. You don't have to leave town to find good art and fun experiences.”
