Sue Gordy is the Muncie Artists Guild “Artist of the Month.” Her work will be shown at various downtown locations.

Sue’s bio: “An interest in drawing buildings and having a father who built houses motivated me to enroll in architecture classes at Ball State University (one of three women in my class in the early 1970s). Ultimately, I worked my way through Ball State's business college and later was employed by Ball Corp. and Boyce Design Center, where I met Jim Faulkner and was inspired by his watercolor landscapes. In midlife, I switched from sales and marketing to library science. Subsequently, I worked in several Indiana public libraries. My passions include gardening with native plants, ecology, geography, and animals. I have rescued many animals and volunteered at several animal shelters. Our backyard is a wildlife habitat near the White River and the Cardinal Greenway, where I enjoy walking and bicycling. After retiring, I learned to paint with watercolors, and recently, to use colored pencils as a medium for the portraits I enjoy creating, working from my own photos. My grandsons and my pets are my favorite subjects.”

Gordy Fine Art & Framing Co.
    224 E. Main
Gordy Fine Art and Framing is pleased to open a new exhibition of photographs by career photographer Ronn Brown.  The exhibition opening party is free to the public on Thursday May 1 from 5 – 8 pm.  Refreshments will be served, and the artist will be on hand to engage with visitors. The show will remain on view until May 31. At 6:15 the artist will give a brief presentation about his work and answer questions.

A native of East Central Indiana, Mr. Brown was based in Los Angeles for over 20 years.  There he focused mainly on photographing musicians, actors and models, and often worked for producers in the film and music industries. This kind of photography requires superb technical skills in operating the camera and lights, but he became highly sought after because of his bold imagination placing his subjects in inventive poses and dress.

Since moving back to Muncie in 2020, he has established a studio on North Walnut St. and is very active continuing his work.  This exhibition focuses on images that he has made since his return to Indiana.

Ronn is also a photo-historian and collector who recently curated an exhibition of photographs called People and Places 1873 – 2000, from the collection of the David Owsley Museum at Ball State.  The Gordy show coincides with that exhibition until it closes on May 23. We encourage people who are interested in Ronn’s work to also visit the Owsley and also to view an accompanying film made by the Ball State Department of Media.

Before moving to Los Angeles in 1997, he attended Ball State in the photojournalism and art departments.  He credits much of his career success to Jack’s Camera Shop in Downtown Muncie where he taught lighting classes for 12 years.  There he refined his studio skills that made his eventual career one of many that were launched at Jack’s.

The show will be on view with works for sale through May 31.  Gordy Fine Art and Framing Company promotes talented artists and offers expert design and craftsmanship for framing and displaying treasured family possessions and works of art. Business hours: Tuesday through Friday, 9 am – 5:30 pm, Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm. Gordy Fine Art and Framing Company is located at 224 East Main Street, next door to Muncie Civic Theatre.  For more information, call 765-284-8422 or visit our website.
